The coexistence of fashion and ballet has been going on for many years, as top designers including: Coco Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Cardin, Valentino Garavani and many other famous names dressed the dancers of major ballet companies around the world. So let's see the brightest examples where ballet meets fashion!

Costume dance Chanel

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Coco Chanel started this trend. In 1924 he designed costumes for the ballet “Blue Express” of the dance group Sergei Diaghilev. The costumes he designed were different from the usual dance clothes, shorts, tank tops, sports shirts, short skirts and socks, in other words they had a more athletic style. Dancing was strange and often uncomfortable in such an outfit. The Coco wanted to differentiate ballet clothes by making them more comfortable than a stiff tutuIn addition, she was the one who created the hair fashion for classical ballet, namely the tight bun.

The fashion house has not stopped collaborating with leading ballet companies to this day. In July of last year, ballet meets fashion in the costumes for the “Brahms–Schoenberg Quartet” ballet and the Paris Opera Ballet designed by Karl Lagerfeld. The idea for the famous company to collaborate with Lagerfeld belonged to choreographer and former director of the Paris Opera Ballet, Benjamin Millepied. The leading designer has created around 100 costumes with special patterns, velvet jackets and tuxedos.

The ballet “Renaissance” with costumes Balmain

This year the Paris Opera Ballet danced in costumes designed by Olivier Rousteing, the artistic director of the house Balmain. Specifically, the acclaimed designer created costumes for the choreographer's new ballet, Sebastian Bertaud. These are elaborate jackets for men embroidered with sequins and pearls and bodysuits with beads and crystals for women.

"I wanted to emphasize the glamour," the designer confessed. Olivier drew inspiration from Faberge works. The decorative elements made the costumes heavier for the dancers, but the choreographer adapted the choreography so that this was not noticeable.

Fashion in the Fall Gala of the New York City Ballet

This fall, the New York City Ballet will premiere ballets with costumes from a variety of designers. Traditionally, the opening of the new season is accompanied by a fashion event, the Fall Gala. This is an event founded by Sarah Jessica Parker. This year, five designers will create costumes for the ballets, including Monce – Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, Tsumori Chisato and Virgil Abloh. Last year, for the Fall Gala Fashion Gala created costumes byJason Wu, Dries van Noten, Narciso Rodriguez and Rosie Assoulin.

His debut Dior

This year the house Dior will present costumes for the ballet. The artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri will dress dancers for his performances American Ballet Theatre. Costumes with silver embroidery and special sensors make the dancers' movements look like 3graphics.
