It is very important that your little girls learn to exercise slowly and include an activity in their daily routine. Most mothers choose ballet for their children to learn discipline but also to have a beautiful and well-shaped body.
Interview at Margarita Nikolaou.
Other parents, however, are against the idea of ballet as they have heard that ballet "crooks" the legs. So what is true and what is false? At what age can a child take ballet lessons? And how can it help them develop?
We spoke with the teacher and director of the ballet school, Isidora Galatopoulou, and she gave us all the information and all the answers to our questions above.
At what age can a girl start ballet? What does she learn?
Ballet instruction begins at the age of 3, according to the legislation governing the teaching of ballet in state-recognized schools. At the age of 3 to 5, children are taught rhythmic - musical-kinetic education, which are lessons that prepare them to join the ballet lesson. During these lessons, children practice their body, mind and imagination while gradually coming into contact with rhythm, always following the terminology of classical dance, with the aim of a smooth transition to the magical space of ballet. Ballet, in the academic sense, begins at the age of 6.
Can dance bring a child who has no discipline at all into line?
One of the primary goals of ballet is discipline. Without it, it is impossible for a child to participate in the lesson as a member of the team that is created in the classroom. Ballet teaches that with discipline, perseverance and patience, one can achieve one's goals, no matter how difficult they may be. It is worth noting that the vast majority of children who attend ballet lessons appear much more mature in terms of organization and cooperation, compared to other children.
Why should a mom choose ballet and not gymnastics?
Every mother is free to choose what she believes is best for her child. Especially when it comes to an activity that includes physical exercise, she should be properly informed and make sure that the people she will trust have the appropriate knowledge (diploma / degree recognized by the state), experience, but above all, they should be good educators because in addition to physical education, they work with children's souls. Nevertheless, if I have to convince someone to choose ballet, it is enough to emphasize that ballet is not just exercise, it is an art, and one of those that is considered "high-level".
Is it true that ballet "deforms" girls' legs year after year? At least that's what most moms believe.
What is true, since the first years of ballet, is that the most beautiful bodies, the most beautiful backs, the most shapely legs and one of the best physical conditions, are possessed by the dancers. The dancers also stand out for the air they have in their walk, the ease of their movements and their straightforward performance. Everything else is simply baseless.
How many years have you been teaching dance?
17 years.
What would you say to moms who are indecisive? Give them an incentive to send their girls to ballet.
All of the above and many other reasons are enough to convince someone to send their child to classical dance. After all, anything classical stands the test of time, and ballet is CLASSIC ART!
