Dance-Tech: A Social Network for Movement Innovators
Tdance-tech is an online platform and social network that aims to connect people involved in dance, movement, New Media and Technology. It offers artists, researchers, theorists and technologists the opportunity to share their work and exchange ideas, creating opportunities for interdisciplinary and collaborative partnerships.
TThe dance-tech project was launched with the aim of exploring the potential of online applications and the internet in the production and dissemination of knowledge of artistic practices that focus on the body and movement, but also how they intersect with and are enriched by other fields such as New Media, Architecture, Philosophy, and Anthropology.
Ais aimed at people who are interested in experimentation and innovation in the art of movement and who seek collaborative creativity, in a contemporary environment with constantly changing practices of "embodied knowledge" as a field of creation and research.
THEThe creators of dance-tech.net have supported a digitally networked community, which counts over 5000 members and has led to local and international collaborations of its members. All services are offered free of charge, while to participate in the network all one needs to do is register through the official website. The main language of the network is English, however users have the ability to communicate in any language they wish.
TThe network is led by its founder, Marlon Barrios Solano, researcher, producer, vlogger, etc., while it is expanding thanks to its partners and the community of members. It is financially and practically supported by its founder and voluntary donations. At the same time, the network curates the digital channel - http://dance-tech.tv., where one can find material from performances, interviews, etc.
TThe dance-tech network began as a website (dance-tech.net) in October 2007 and included, in the initial network, partners and names from various countries including: Eyebeam (USA), Dance Films Association (USA), New York Live Arts (USA), South American Network of Dance, Gilles Jobin Company (Switzerland), Bonlieu Scène nationale || Scene nationale à Annecy (France), Transmedia Akademie/Hellerau (Germany), Festival Panorama (Brazil), and Forsythe Company (Germany).
Since then, the network has collaborated with several international festivals, cultural and research centers.
Tdance-tech aims to develop and maintain a series of online and hybrid collaborative platforms for the interdisciplinary nature of movement as a performing art, as well as to highlight innovative and emerging dance practices and art forms. In this sense, it focuses on developing sustainable, collaborative strategies and tactics, through which it can offer local and international collaborations within a global, networked community. It systematically aims to explore the flexible and ever-changing landscape of New Media.
The dance-tech network supports the following themes and actions:
- Platforms with content originating from the users themselves
- Networked learning and collaboration environments
- Collaborative media production tactics
- Online content curation strategies for contemporary performing arts and movement.
- Collaborative and networked strategies for communication and mediation of the arts.
- Mobile technologies
- Open knowledge and technologies
- All individual dance-tech actions aim to position the concept of embodied knowledge as a fundamental condition and to relate movement practices to a broader contemporary, interdisciplinary framework.
